One fun newspaper craft you can do with your kids is making a city at night. It’s a great activity for kids ages 4 to 5, and it builds fine motor skills and scissor practice while keeping little hands off screens.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Old newspapers
- Black paper
- Glue stick
- A4 white paper
- Pair of scissors
- Pen
- Ruler
Procedure:
Using a ruler and scissors, cut rectangular strips from the old newspaper. They don’t need to be the same size — a city skyline naturally has buildings of different heights, so varying them makes it more realistic. These will form your city towers. For the roofs, cut out triangular shapes from the white paper.
Glue the towers onto the black paper, then fix the triangular roofs on top with the glue stick.
Using a pen, I shaded in a few of the “bricks” on the towers. Crayons would probably give a bolder, more textured look if you have them on hand.
Once the city was in place, I added a moon — and my kid helped out by cutting and adding the star.
